I am glad I have one more year to go and I might even concentrate on something outside of Finance now. I was thinking about getting into Investment Banking and somewhat pointing my nose towards Wall street. I don't think I will be doing it now.

While in the earlier days the jobs offshored were the types that were labor intensive and tedious, there is a growing trend of jobs in the higher value-add spectrum which are getting offshored nowadays. For most companies, research and development are considered to be core competencies. However with the R&D facilities set up in India by the likes of Microsoft and Oracle, it is not the back office IT jobs only that are getting offshored any more. Even in the Finance world some of the high-end value add work including Investment Banking is now coming from such low cost centers.

Although this is a time many people will think of changing their careers around completely, this is a time to not rush to non-synergistic unrelated career moves. Unless you are truly doing it from where your heart wants to lead you that is. Do not feel pressured into getting out of your field just because it sounds all doom and gloom.
