Although this is a time many people will think of changing their careers around completely, this is a time to not rush to non-synergistic unrelated career moves. Unless you are truly doing it from where your heart wants to lead you that is. Do not feel pressured into getting out of your field just because it sounds all doom and gloom.

If you are unsure look for a synergistic industry or line of job that can utilize your skills. Management Consulting firms, Corporate Finance may be options. Going into business for yourself is also an option, but you should have deep pockets to tide over the initial slim profit periods and willing to work hard on areas that you are not primed in necessarily.

Before you are at this stage you should have already been getting lean because this is where it will help you to be agile in meeting your basic needs while you try a new path.
